Rochelle Newman

Rochelle credits her love of language, humor, and culture to growing up on New York’s LowerEast Side. She has written for the stage and screen, winning awards for her work in both arenas.  Recently, she received her MFA from Antioch University, Los Angeles where she focused on Creative Non-Fiction and Literary Translation. This led to her collaboration with Alonso Nuñez, a colleague from her life in advertising and marketing, and an author of a number of renowned Spanish language children’s books.
With Nuñez, she co-authored ZigZag, published by CIDCLI and recognized by Mexico’s Secretary of Culture. Together, as Newman & amp; Nuñez, they are exploring “converslation,” an approach to bilingualism that puts Spanish and English into dialogue with one another. She has published many essays and articles in literary journals, including Lilith, Off Assignment, Role Reboot, Lunch Ticket, The Forward, and others. She has also been published in trade publications like Ad Age and Media Post, as a result of her three-decade long career in US Latino marketing whereshe is recognized for her cultural insights.
