Randy Shaw

Randy Shaw is a longtime housing activist and the founder and Executive Director of the Tenderloin Housing Clinic, San Francisco's leading provider of permanent housing to homeless single adults. Over the past four decades Shaw has written landmark laws and ballot initiatives improving housing code enforcement, reducing citywide rent increases, and preserving the city's supply of single-room occupancy hotels (SRO's). He has also worked with builders to get new housing constructed in San Francisco. Shaw's prior books include "The Activist's Handbook," "Beyond the Fields: Cesar Chavez, the UFW, and the Struggle for Justice in the 21st Century," and "The Tenderloin: Sex, Crime and Resistance in the Heart of San Francisco." His newest book, "Generation Priced Out: Who Gets to Live in the New Urban America," was released last November. Shaw is the editor of Beyond Chron, which regularly covers housing issues.
