College of the Desert
Professor of Creative Writing / Author
Greater Los Angeles Area
Talk to me about the California deserts! And all that unfolds there. I write poetry and prose about this mythopoetic, storied landscape, my lifelong home. You can also talk to me about my desert-based writing. My works include: "Badwater," a finalist in the 2018 Hilary Gravendyk Poetry Book Awards; "Fire and Rain: Ecopoetry of California" co-editor, Scarlet Tanager Books; "Ruby Mountain," poetry, Finishing Line Press; "No Place for a Puritan: the Literature of California's Deserts," co-editor, Heyday Books. I write about desert living -- including the topic of wildland fires -- and literature for KCET Artbound Los Angeles, The Sierra Club Desert Report, and Inlandia Literary Journeys. I'm a creative writing professor at College of the Desert in Palm Springs, CA. You can talk to me about that, and/or talk to me about the work I used to do as a wildland firefighter for the CA Desert District/BLM and the US Forest Service.
