Professor Dutton, (BA English Literature, BA Music, UCSB, MA Music Composition, UC Berkeley), has taught at Los Angeles City College since 1975. In addition to his work at LACC, Dutton has taught theory, music analysis, composition, and ear-training at The Colburn Conservatory of Music, and Santa Monica College. He also owned and managed Dutton's Brentwood Books, a highly regarded independent bookstore from 1983 until 2009.
